Mr. Jason Poole – Percussion Staff
Kim and Jason Poole have been on Hamilton’s marching percussion staff since 2017. They write and teach with the fall marching band, and design, write, and teach all aspects of the winter indoor percussion ensemble. Both of them played percussion through school, including marching band at their respective high schools (Jason in Mesa, Kim in Colorado). Jason marched a summer in drum corps. The Pooles met and marched together in the ASU Sun Devil Marching Band Drum Line. They began writing and teaching together at Dobson High in Mesa, where the band and the drum line were usually the largest in the state. For the 16 years that they taught there, Dobson was consistently rated among the top 3 bands in the state, across all divisions. In 1995, the Pooles taught with the ASU Drumline for their production in the Percussive Arts Society International Convention College Drumline Competition. They also taught, wrote, and gave clinics at various schools around the valley. They stepped back from teaching in 2004 to focus on raising their 2 boys, and Jason began judging in the WGAZ indoor percussion circuit in 2005. When their boys started playing percussion in elementary school, the Pooles volunteered to teach the band percussionists at Tarwater Elementary, along with the amazing band director, Merri Chappell. The Pooles were regular band parents at Hamilton when their oldest started in marching band from 2014-2016, but they were invited to teach again in 2017. They became the full percussion staff in 2018, and started slowly gathering the great group of support technicians that we have today.
