Concert Ensembles

Concert Band

The first band ensemble that many of our students will join in their high school experience, the Concert Band is comprised of approximately 50-60 members and serves as a feeder group for the Symphonic Band. Basic fundamentals are emphasized, and the members are exposed to appropriate band literature. The Concert Band is under the direction of Charlie Baker.

Symphonic Band

The middle band ensemble at Hamilton High School, the Symphonic Band is comprised of approximately 50-60 members and is established through auditions before each school year. This band serves as a feeder group for the Wind Ensemble. The Symphonic Band performs a high level of band literature, and regularly achieves Excellent ratings at AMEA Concert Festivals. The Symphonic Band is under the direction of Jay Brown.

Wind Ensemble

The Wind Ensemble is made up of approximately 40 members and is established through auditions before each school year. The very best musicians in our band become members of the Wind Ensemble. Many of these students are also participants in All-Region and All-State Festivals, as well as other ensembles in the Phoenix Valley. The Wind Ensemble plays and interprets the highest level of high school band literature, and regularly achieves Excellent and Superior ratings at AMEA Concert Festivals. The Wind Ensemble is under the direction of Jay Brown.

Jazz Ensembles

Jazz I

Jazz I is a performance based course intended serve as a further exploration of the rich history of American jazz music. Through a variety of performance opportunities, the student will gain an understanding and appreciation for this great art form. The very best jazz musicians at Hamilton High School will become members of Jazz I. Jazz I has many performance opportunities throughout the year, from school concerts to gigs around the greater Chandler area. Jazz I is under the direction of Jay Brown.

Jazz II

Jazz II is a performance based course intended serve as an introduction to the rich history of American jazz music. Through ensemble rehearsal, individual practice, and several performance opportunities, the student will gain an understanding and appreciation for this great art form. Emphasis will be placed on not just performance technique, but also rudimentary improvisational skills, musicianship, and a sense of personal accountability. Jazz II is under the direction of Charlie Baker.
